Basic Information
The Goal of This Class Is to Acquaint Future Engineers and Scientists With The Main Concepts of Polymer Physics (including Polymer Statistical Physics and Thermodynamics, Polymer Mechanics And Rheology, and Transport Properties). We Will Discuss Theoretical And Computational Approaches Used to Design Polymer-based Materials And Predict Their Properties. at The End of The Six-week Class, The Students Will Be Offered a Problem Similar to One Encountered In Real-life Chemical Industry and Will Work Together to Find a Solution Using Modelingand Theory. This Class Will Be of Interest to Students Considering Careers In Advanced Manufacturing, Chemical, Plastics, Electronics, Pharmaceutical, Automotive, Packaging, Coatings, Building And Construction, and Other Industry R and D. Today, Polymers Are Indispensable Materials in All Those Industries, and Understanding Their Fundamentals Is Often Necessary to Design Processes (3d-printing, Extrusion, Foaming, Solution Processing) and Materials (composites, Nanocomposites, Foams, Films) to Solve Our Present-day Challenges (water Desalination, Energy Efficiency, Recycling). Learning Outcomes# By The End of The Course, The Students Will Be Able To# 1. Physical Modeling of Polymer Systems. 2. Investigate The Rheological Behavior of Polymer Solutions. 3. Simulating Polymer Systems Numerically.
